Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High school students signed up to audition for All County Band either middle or high school last month. Application process is closed.

Please see provided documents for event information and map. Please remind students to put in that extra practice this week. Scales memorized, prepared piece at tempo, practice sight reading. I am also offering to stay after school everyday this week till at least 5pm to give individual help to anyone who needs it. Please take advantage of this help. Please no one drop out for lack of practice.

Instructions for All-County Band Auditions Tuesday, November 6th , 2007
Audition Instructions for Directors and Students
1) Registration will take place in the commons area of Kennedy Middle School.
2) All students must check in at the registration table and receive their audition numbers, instructions, etc. Teachers should provide to registration a list of any students who will not be auditioning.
3) Students must register at least 30 minutes before their assigned time.
4) Each student should be ready and willing to play on time so we can keep the schedule going.
5) No students are to play instruments in the hallways, commons area, or any other site not designated as warm-up, or audition room. We are guests at Kennedy Middle School, and should conduct ourselves accordingly.
6) Students are not allowed to speak to judges at all! If any communication is to be made it should be whispered to the room monitor and transferred to the judges. Any student who speaks out loud to the judges will be disqualified from the audition. The judges will be behind “screens”, so the auditioning student should not be able to see the judges.
7) Judges should not speak to the students other than giving the instructions. No prompting, coaching etc. should be taking place in the audition room. Simply give the instructions and fairly score the student.
8) Students should be prepared to have all required scales memorized in the audition order. Each student is responsible for having all of the audition materials with them. No music will be provided or copied at the site.
9) Students will receive the results as soon as possible after the auditions. Please do not call or e-mail.
10) Students are allowed to audition on one instrument only.
*MIDDLE SCHOOL: Auditions will not be heard for piccolo, contra-bass clarinet, contra-alto clarinet, or alto clarinet. Students interested in low clarinet should audition on bass clarinet. Piccolo will be auditioned from the selected flute section at the first rehearsal if there is a need.
*HIGH SCHOOL: Auditions will not be heard for piccolo, Eb clarinet, or alto clarinet. Piccolo and Eb clarinet will be auditioned from the selected section at the first rehearsal.
11) PLEASE NOTE: HS Flute, MS flute, HS Bb Clarinet, HS saxes, HS percussion, and HS trumpet auditions will take place in TWO rooms this year. Students will play their scales and solo in room A, and will then be escorted to room B for sight-reading. Please prepare your students for this setup.
12) REMEMBER: Students must be prepared to play ALL of their prepared exercise, but cuts may be made in the prepared exercise in some audition rooms. A marked copy of the prepared exercise will be available for the student to see where to start and stop, however, students may still use their own music during the audition.
13) Judges should have all of their audition forms averaged and put into order from highest to lowest scores at the end of the audition. All packages should be turned directly in to Da-Laine Chapman before leaving that evening.
14) Each judge should bring a calculator, pencils, a sweater or jacket, snacks, etc. Also, each judging room is responsible for bringing their own bed-sheet (any size) and two music stands to create the screen in their room. Clothespins will be provided. Feel free to get together with the other director in your room to decide who is going to bring these items. If a director is scheduled to judge with a non-band director or someone from out of ocounty, the director is responsible for bringing all items.
15) Auditions begin at 4:45 p.m. for most rooms; the HS flute, HS clarinet, and HS trumpet rooms will begin at 4:30 p.m.
16) Judges, There will be a mandatory director’s meeting in the Kennedy Bandroom promptly at 4:00 p.m. Please make arrangements to leave your school early so you can be present at this meeting. Da-Laine Chapman will contact your principals with this request. ALL AUDITION ROOMS MUST BEGIN ON TIME. All directors must be involved in the audition process. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
17) MAKE SURE YOU ENTER THE SCHOOL AT THE SOUTH DOOR NEAR THE BAND/CHORUS ROOM as requested by the Kennedy administration. We are guests in the school, and if we want to be welcomed in the future, we must respect the school rules.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions or concerns!!
Thank you!!
