State Solo & Ensemble - Miami April 2-3

46 CBHS Band students have been invited to the state Solo & Ensemble Festival in Miami. This is due to their outstanding performance assessments at the FBA Solo and Ensemble Competition last February at Satellite High School. These groups include the Brass ensemble and Clarinet ensemble as well as the qualified soloist and smaller ensembles. This event is high school only.

Cocoa Beach was represented very well by all grades at the competition. This event included Cocoa Beach band students in the 6th -12 grades performing solos, duets, trios, quartets, woodwind quintets and even a clarinet choir's for high school and Junior high and the color guard. 86 students received "Superior" ratings (the highest rating possible). 95 students received an "Excellent" rating. This is an outstanding accomplishment for these young students. Congratulations to all! A special "thank you" to Mrs. Laufenberg for her piano accompaniment for many of our students.

We will leave for Miami on Monday April 2 after school and return Tuesday April 3 by dinner time. Our performances are from 8 am -12 pm Tuesday morning in Miami.

Sound Waves TV Show will air District Performances

Band Parents,

Brevard Public Schools Television is recording our District Performance Assessments for airing on their television channel on a show called Sound Waves.

Sound Waves is a new TV show that showcases the Music Performance Assessment concerts held in February and March 2007.

Here are answers to questions you may have about this show:

When will it premiere?
The first week of June 2007. We will notify all school principals and music teachers with the exact premiere date and show schedule once we know it (probably in early May).

Where can I watch it?
On BPS-TV, Bright House Networks channel 9.

What if I don't get cable TV?
Most schools get cable TV so you may be able to make arrangements to watch it there.

Can I get a DVD of the show?
We will give at least one DVD of a show featuring a school to that schools music director and principal. It will be up to each school if they make copies for anyone else. Viewers can also purchase a DVD for a small fee from the Educational Service Facility in Viera. The exact price and more details will be announced when the show premiers in June.

Can I record the show at home for my own use?
Absolutely! This is the fastest and most economical way to get a copy of the show.

When will the show air on BPS-TV and how will I know when my school is on the show?
In June we will publish showtimes and an episode guide on the webpage you are on right now (www.bpstv.com/soundwaves). Once the show premieres you can also get schedules on our main web site http://www.bpstv.com/. We will also send this information to all school principals and music directors.

Will all of the songs performed by my school be in the show?
We're not sure yet. For timing reasons we may need to drop some of the performances but our goal will be to show as much of the MPA concerts as possible.

How long will Sound Waves air on BPS-TV?
Once we premiere the show it will continue airing in repeats, probably through June 2008 at which point we would premiere the second season of the show featuring 2008 MPA concerts.

Will Sound Waves be streamed on the internet?
We're not sure yet. There may be some copyright restrictions that prevent us from streaming all of the shows on the web. We'll know more about this as we get closer to premiering the show.

Band Banquet

Band Parents,

It is that time of year again. It is a time to celebrate a great year and acknowledge hard work and effort with all of those awards. We will have a Band Awards Banquet at the the Grand Ball Room at the Hilton Cocoa Beach Ocean Front. Details to follow. This will be a dinner event that will be served to us. I will send out meal order forms soon. You will select your meal type, number of people attending, and send in your payment at that time. This event is for every band member in each band and every parent or family member as well. This is our band families' time of celebration. Awards include Solo and ensemble awards and District MPA awards and individual awards. We will begin this process soon. Be on the look out for the papers!

Concert Band District Festival Tuesday March 20

March 20, 2007 - District Festival MPA - Tuesday. Performance at District Festival at Astronaut High School -3:30-845pm

Stay after school - Bring Concert Clothes to change in to.- Band Boosters will serve Pizza and Sodas for $5.00 - Then Students will Change into uniforms - We will have warm ups. And then we will go to Astronaut. Students will perform on Stage at 7:30pm and then we will do sight reading following that. We should be ready for pick up back at Cocoa Beach at 8:45pm-

Wind Ensemble achieves another Superior Rating!

Congratulations Wind Ensemble!

The Cocoa Beach High School Band's - Wind Ensemble - received 'Superior' ratings (Highest Possible) this past weekend at the District Music Performance Assessment (Band FCAT's) held at Satellite Beach Auditorium. The judges were very tough. This is a great accomplishment and yet another consecutive Superior for the Band.
